Bad Penny Publications: Zine Launch

“Why are books so very powerful? What do the books we've read over our lives - our own personal libraries - make of us?

Ali Smith - ‘Public Library and Other Stories’

As part of their month-long residency at Bibliotheek Den Haag, Bad Penny publications (a publishing house run by Den Haag based artists Noor Remmen and Emily Stevenhagen) invites you to the Launch of their collaborative publication ‘Language Love’, created together with the libraries public , around the topic of finding ‘common language’. ‘Language Love’ considers how we can communicate with one another when comfort in languages are so different, and examines what 'common' languages we can create out of fragmentation and poetics. Hereby floating words, mistranslations, miscommunications, waywardness, sounds, mimes,

drawings and scribblings are embraced; where broken sentences can further unpack personal and communal vulnerabilities and intimacies.

The launch afternoon will celebrate the completion of the zine, a collaborative anthropological research journal created through workshops conducted with the library's public in August. The publications will be accompanied by a program of spoken word performances and readings by artists from the Den Haag community, sharing their approach to the topic of being 'lost in translation'.

We would love to invite you to pop by and talk to us about our process, see the outcome of our collaboration and celebrate with us
